Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The EYFS is statutori framework for the Early Years which sets the standards for welfare, care learning and development for children from birth to five years.

it gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children.

At Alma Montessori Childcare we ensure that every child is given the opportunity to learn through high quality play experiences. Play is more than just fun for babies  and children. It’s how they learn best, and how they work out who they are, how the world works and where they fit into it.  Play helps children to build confidence, feel loved, happy and safe, to develop social skills , language and communication. Through play they learn about caring for others and the environment  and they develop physical skills including fine and gross motoric skills.

As children grow, the way they play will change. Children move through different forms of play as they grow. This includes playing alone, playing alongside other children and interactive play with other children.

We support each child’s learning by encouraging them to explore, experiment and try things. We listen carefully what they say and encourage them to talk, we expand their knowledge by adding new words to their existing vocabulary. Children are welcome to ask questions and we find out the answers together. We share songs, stories and rhymes, both new ones and old favourites.

We provide an environment that is enriched with educational material which provide a learning experience for the children and strengths the child’s love of learning. At Alma Montessori we are continuously developing new and exciting ways of encouraging child development in a safe and stimulating environment.

We ensure that each child feels individual, secure and cherished while they are away from home. We inform parents of the child’s experiences at nursery. We carry out regular observations ensuring the childrens learning ad development incorporates their interests and needs. These observations cover all areas of learning according to the framework, as well as records of special moments or events.
